We are seeking Expressions of Interest for independent members (including Chairperson) of the Byron Shire Council Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

Skills and experience

Qualifications, skills and experience are required in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Risk and compliance
  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Law
  • Senior management with the Government, Local Government or private sectors.

Members will be required to:

  • Possess strong leadership qualities.
  • Be able to lead effective committee meetings.
  • Maintain effective working relationships.

Applicants will need to meet certain eligibility requirements. Details are provided in the application pack along with remuneration details.

Role of the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee

Each council must have an Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee, which has an advisory and assurance role, independently reviewing and advising on the following aspects of our operations:

  • Compliance
  • Risk management
  • Fraud control
  • Financial management
  • Governance
  • Implementation of the strategic plan, delivery program and strategies
  • Service reviews
  • Collection of performance measurement data by the council, and
  • Any other matters prescribed by the regulation.

The Committee must also provide information to Council to improve performance and advice on Council’s internal audit activities.
