The NSW Government is investigating part of the Railway Corridor in Mullumbimby for affordable housing. This includes supporting infrastructure such as:
- Car parking
- Public open spaces
- Community facilities.
Council has entered into a high-level agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the NSW Government to work together on a concept plan that works with the constraints of this area.
This opportunity is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to open up 30 percent affordable and diverse housing across the State on sites, including the Mullumbimby Rail Corridor, owned by the Transport Asset Holding Entity of NSW (TAHE).
The land in the Rail Corridor was identified as desirable for long-term affordable housing by Council and the community in the Our Mullumbimby Masterplan, which was adopted by Council in 2019.
Through the Memorandum of Understanding, Council will be promoting a high level of community involvement in the process and a thorough assessment of site constraints such as flooding. Council has also resolved that any concept for this land consider the existing rail corridor and the possibility of some form of public transport along this corridor in the future.
Council will be meeting with the Transport Asset Holding Entity in coming months and a process and timeline will be developed and shared on this web page.
