Byron Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest for new members for the Byron Masterplan Guidance Group.

The Guidance Group is made up of 22 community members who represent the diverse community of Byron Bay.  They work alongside Council to guide the future form, look and feel of the Byron Bay town centre.

“Being a part of the Guidance Group is an opportunity for passionate community members to contribute to what Byron Bay looks like five, 10 and 20 years from now,” Byron Shire Mayor Sarah Ndiaye, said.

“This group is very ‘hands on’, providing direct input into the design of projects happening on the ground, from the very early concept stages.

“Over the years I have seen that members are passionate about making sure that Byron Bay, despite being known around the world as a destination, has community at its core – and this is at the forefront of every decision they make,” Mayor Ndiaye said.

“The group has been heavily involved in the design of Railway Park and the rail corridor, the new Byron skate park, the redevelopment of the old hospital site, and the extra tree plantings and seating in the town centre.

“The Guidance Group’s input is critical to shaping a town centre that can be truly celebrated as the heart of our community.

“For Councillors and staff, this group is used as a sounding board to test whether our concepts, designs and ideas accurately reflect what the community wants to see in its town,” she said.

Key projects for the Guidance Group over the next 12 months are:

  • Delivery of adopted concept plans for the Byron Bay foreshore.
  • Completion of wetlands and boardwalks at Sandhills.
  • Delivery of the Byron drainage upgrades and associated traffic changes.

Expressions of Interest close on 29 November 2024.
