Federal Drive and Gulgan Road temporary closures
Published on 08 March 2024
Part of Federal Drive at Federal, and Gulgan Road at Mullumbimby will be temporarily closed from next Monday, 11 March, weather permitting.
Part of Federal Drive will have lane closures in place next Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 March, between Federal Village and the intersection of Whian Road and Eureka Road, from 7am to 5pm.
Gulgan Road will be closed on Sunday 17, Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 March from 8am to 4pm using a staged approach. The intersection will be completed on Sunday 17 March, with short delays expected. The Southern end, between the roundabout at Tyagarah and the turnoff near Uncle Tom's Pies will be closed on Monday, and the Northern end, between the Brunswick Heads turnoff and Uncle Tom’s Pies will be closed on Tuesday.
The temporary closures are being undertaken to reseal the road, as part of Council’s general maintenance program.
Phil Holloway, Byron Shire Council’s Director of Infrastructure Services said that closing the roads would mean the jobs can be completed quickly and safely.
“The road closures will allow us to get the work done quickly, and it will be a lot safer for both road users and the people doing the work,” he said.
“At Gulgan Road the roundabouts off the motorway will remain open and, in both locations, there will still be access for residents to their properties during this time. As well as emergency services.
“We thank residents and visitors for their patience, while we complete the road works,” he said.
VMS Boards will be in place and residents and businesses have been notified.
Byron Shire’s main roads are resealed to keep them in as good a condition as possible. People can request road grading, resealing and pothole repair by going to Council’s Report It platform.
Council has also been busy slashing, cleaning drains, repairing potholes, and repairing guardrails across the shire as part of the general maintenance program.
The Federal Drive landslip reconstruction is due to be completed by the end of April 2024 (dependent on weather conditions), and is funded separately under flood repair work.
