Federal Drive to remain closed until early 2024

Federal Drive will remain closed to traffic until early 2024 as work continues on the reconstruction of the road which was badly damaged during the floods in 2022.

Contractors are making solid progress, and while it was hoped that one lane would be open to traffic by Christmas, unfortunately this will not be possible.

The process to stabilise Federal Drive has taken a lot longer than expected along with delays in securing material in a tight market.

“Federal Drive is a key thoroughfare for locals, and we are extremely grateful for their patience because we know that this is having a major impact on their day-to-day commute,” Evan Elford, Manager Infrastructure Recovery, said.

All going well, the road will reopen to all traffic in April 2024.
