Council is updating its Disability Inclusion Action Plan for 2025-2029 and would love input and ideas from anyone living with disability and/or mental health conditions, as well as carers, health workers and advocates.

Everyone’s encouraged to have their say at www.byron.nsw.gov.au/diap by 30 November 2024.

“We want to hear about your experience of living in the Byron Shire and where you think improvements can be made,” Community Project Officer, Vanessa Miller said.

“We recognise that living with a disability or a mental health condition, and sometimes both, can be really difficult and there are many barriers’ people experience that impact their quality of life.

“We want to create an action plan that addresses the real issues affecting people’s day to day lives,” Ms Miller said.

As part of the consultation, Council is hosting a series of workshops and drop-in sessions:

  • Disability Sector workshop: Wednesday 13 November, 1.30pm to 3pm - Cavanbah Centre, Byron Bay.
  • Community Conversation workshop: Thursday 14 November, 1.30pm to 3pm - Cavanbah Centre, Byron Bay.
  • Online Community Conversation workshop: Thursday 21 November, 10am to 11.30am.  Via link.
  • Community Conversation workshop: Thursday 28 November, 10am to 11.30am – Mullumbimby Civic Hall, Mullumbimby.

Anyone wanting to attend a workshop should register via Council’s web page or by calling 02 6626 7000.

If you’d like some help completing the survey, or talking through your ideas, there are also three drop-in sessions being held in Council’s Customer Service Foyer from 9am to 12pm on Thursday 14 November, Thursday 21 November and again on Thursday 28 November.

Or have your say at any time that suits you by completing Council’s online survey or commenting in the online discussion at www.byron.nsw.gov.au/diap.  There’s also an Easy Read version of the survey on the web page.

If you’d like a survey posted to you, contact Council on 02 6626 7000.

Feedback closes on 30 November 2024.
