Formal approval was received recently on two more funding applications for infrastructure damaged at Main Arm by the 2022 flood event.

Phil Warner, Byron Shire Council’s Manager Infrastructure Recovery, said that he was pleased that more applications have now been given the tick of approval.

“I am sure hinterland residents will be relieved to see more funding applications getting approved and we hope to begin more work at Main Arm by the end of this year/early next year, weather permitting,” said Mr Warner.

The funding applications that have been recently formally approved include:

  • Repair of causeways and culverts at Palmwoods and Main Arm.
    • Palmwoods Road Causeways 1, 2, 4.
    • Main Arm Causeways 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 16, 17.
    • A culvert on Main Arm Road near Coolamon Creek.
    • A culvert near 1436 Main Arm Road.
  • Repair of Main Arm Road between Main Arm Upper Public School and Dry Creek Road.

Culvert work on Main Arm Road was completed, with pavement reconstruction between Motts Road and Dry Creek Road also to happen later this year. This work is being partly funded from Council’s maintenance budget, and a portion of this work is also funded by the Australian and NSW Governments under Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Council is continuing to work with Transport for NSW to get other flood funding applications approved as quickly as possible.
