Pay parking starts in Bruns this Monday 30 September

Pay parking starts operating in Brunswick Heads this Monday 30 September, 2024.
Applications are now open for the two free Shire Resident Parking Permits on offer, per rateable property, for eligible residents.
The free permits are courtesy of a resolution of Council, designed to help residents with pay parking’s introduction in central Brunswick Heads and South Beach Road from this Monday 30 September.
The free Shire Resident Parking Permits can be used at metered pay parking spaces in both Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads.
“We received around 350 applications on day one (16 September) and the demand crashed our permit system for a number of hours,” Council’s Acting Director Infrastructure Services, Malcolm Robertson said.
“The system is back on track, and we’ll be processing the applications as quickly as possible.
“By the end of the first week (20 September), we’d received a total of 1800 applications for all types of parking permits,” Mr Robertson said.
“Our customer service team has had a busy few days in the CWA Hall this week in Brunswick Heads, helping locals with their permit applications. We were pleased to be able to assist everyone and thank you for your patience,” he said.
Existing Permit Holders
If you have an existing resident permit, these permits will remain valid throughout the Byron Shire, including the Brunswick Heads pay parking areas until they expire.
“There’s a bit of confusion over existing permits and we wanted to clarify that if you have an existing $55 Shire Resident Permit, you do not need to apply for a free permit until your existing permit expires!”
