Three Byron Shire animal rescue charities to share $30k

Byron Shire Council today announced three $10,000 microgrants to be awarded to local animal rescue and shelter charities to support their vital work.
The grants were awarded to the Companion Animals Welfare Incorporated, trading as Byron Dog Rescue, Animal Welfare League NSW Incorporated North Coast Branch and the Pets For Life Animal Shelter Incorporated, Billinudgel – thanks to the Local Government Recovery Grants – Companion Animals Program, proudly funded by the NSW Government.
“For many years, these three charity organisations have undertaken extensive work to arrange fostering and rehoming of all eligible Byron Shire Council impounded animals, in addition to many other companion animals from the Byron Shire,” Council’s Manager Public and Environmental Services, Sarah Nagel said.
“It’s hard work that largely goes unnoticed and without thanks and these grants recognise the tireless efforts of these three organisations, and the support they continued to offer our pets and animals during and after the 2022 floods.
“The aim of these microgrants is to help these organisations continue the improvement of animal welfare standards as well as assisting with the care and rehoming of companion animals within our local government area,” Ms Nagel said.
“Again, I want to acknowledge and thank these amazing charities and the awesome local volunteers from our community, of all ages I hear, who turn up week after week to look after our Shire’s rescued animals – thank you!” she said.
