‘Business as usual’ at Bruns parking meters after weekend vandalism.

Byron Shire Council is assessing and repairing the damage to 40 parking meters which were smashed in Brunswick Heads over the weekend.
Police have since arrested and charged a person in relation to the vandalism.
“This is really unfortunate for the local community who do not support vandalism,” Byron Shire Council’s Director Infrastructure Services, Phil Holloway said.
“Regrettably, all that this sort of vandalism does is cost money and delay the flow of money to the community for their local projects,” Mr Holloway said.
While the meters are being assessed and repairs are being organised, Council is encouraging people to continue using the meters ‘as usual’ via the QR code and Pay Stay App.
“Hopefully most Byron Shire residents using pay parking spaces in Brunswick Heads have their free Byron Shire Resident permit or other permit types by now,” Mr Holloway said.
“But for all visitors to the town, our message is that it’s business as usual with pay parking and you can pay using the QR codes on all machines, or by uploading the Pay Stay App,” he said.
Council’s Enforcement team will be out and about in Brunswick Heads to assist people using the meters and will be monitoring time limits as usual.
