Tennyson Street in Byron Bay is being extended to connect to Gilmore Cresent near the Byron Bay Skate Park.

The road connection is in preparation for the construction of the NSW Government's new emergency Services precinct which will be built in Gilmore Crescent.

The NSW Government has announced plans for a $28 million facility which will house the Police and Fire and Rescue NSW.

Project benefits

The extension of Tennyson Street to meet Gilmore Crescent will provide more efficient access and response times for emergency services.

The project will also improve pedestrian and cycle connectivity through the Sandhills Precinct area as well as providing 33 new car parking spaces.

Vegetation removal

Some vegetation is being removed as part of the project, including 21 well-established native trees.

While the area has been disturbed over many years, a biological assessment has been approved by the NSW Government and compensatory planting will be done in the nearby Sandhills wetlands.

Environmental experts will also be on-site to inspect the area and relocate any fauna prior to any excavation work.
