Upgrades to South Beach Road Brunswick Heads

Parking on South Beach Road is heavily restricted during construction hours (Monday - Friday) and delays are expected. Please seek alternative parking in central Brunswick Heads (local traffic and service providers excepted).

Work to upgrade the road and install drainage on South Beach Road, Brunswick Heads, started in early February 2025.

This major upgrade includes:

  • Resurfacing and reconstructing South Beach Road and Torakina Carpark
  • New drainage infrastructure 
  • New kerb and gutter works
  • Line marking
  • Landscaping and signage.

Works do not include resurfacing South Beach Lane at this stage. We will be seeking funding so that these works can be done in the future. 

Traffic Impacts

  • Parking will be heavily restricted during construction hours (Mon to Friday). If the limited spaces available are full, or if sections of the works require road closures, you may be asked to turn around.
  • Please plan ahead and avoid parking on South Beach Road wherever possible.  
  • Seek alternative parking in Brunswick Heads village.  
  • Pedestrian access is available throughout works via the two bridges (Brunswick Heads Bridge and the Footbridge).

Local traffic access and service providers

All residents of South Beach Road, businesses, services providers and other key stakeholders can gain access as required via traffic controllers, during construction hours.

Disability parking access

Some parking spaces are available during construction hours. Please speak to the traffic controllers.

Tennis Club, Brunswick Heads Community Centre and the Surf Life Saving Club

These services are operating.

Funding

This $2.7m project has been made possible thanks to more than $1m from the NSW Government, $500k from the Roads to Recovery program (Australian Government) and the remaining $1.2m from Byron Shire Council.
