About the Strategy

Byron Shire’s economy is unique.

Our uniqueness comes from our innovation, creativity, and variety of sectors.

These all complement each other to build a strong and diverse economy.

To define our role in supporting the economy, we have developed a draft Business, Industry and Visitor Economy Strategy.

Key themes of the Draft Strategy

Foster Business Engagement

  • Bring businesses together.
  • Engage with businesses.
  • Encourage innovation and sustainability.
  • Support regional engagement.

Celebrate Our Business and Brand Identity

  • Define our visitor economy identity.
  • Promote our innovative and circular business environment.
  • Celebrate our towns and villages.

Plan for a Sustainable Economy

  • Ensure spaces for businesses and residents.
  • Streamline regulatory processes.
  • Leverage major redevelopment sites.
  • Augment infrastructure.

Implementation Plan of the Draft Strategy

The goal of this Strategy is for the economy to support the community and environment in a sustainable and balanced way.

During consultation with industry and stakeholders, 3 key themes emerged.

Each of these themes have actions that form the Implementation Plan.

The Implementation Plan will be evaluated each year. It will then be adjusted to respond to changes in the economy.

How we developed the Draft Strategy

From February 2023, we've been researching, workshopping and interviewing with:

  • local businesses from various industry sectors
  • Chambers of Commerce and industry and networking groups
  • Agency stakeholders
  • our Business and Industry Advisory Committee

We asked for their thoughts on:

  • background research findings
  • economic advantages, barriers, challenges, opportunities, and strengths
  • Council’s role in economic development

During the development of the Strategy we also checked in with the community to make sure that we were on the right track to develop the draft Strategy.
