Byron Shire Community Resilience Networks
The Byron Community Resilience Network is a Community Reference Group for the Local Emergency Management Committee.
The Community Resilience Network (CRN) is made up of members from:
- government services
- non-government services
- community.
These groups that can contribute to social and economic emergency preparedness and recovery within the Byron Shire. We coordinate the CRN meetings.
Local Community Resilience Hubs
Community resilience hubs (CHUBs) are local volunteer-based community groups who are members of the Byron Shire Community Resilience Network.
There are 13 local community resilience hubs across the Byron Shire.
The hubs work with local organisations, government agencies and emergency services to help the community:
- prepare before an emergency
- during the recovery process.
These hubs run training sessions, help with planning, and build their capacity in managing emergency events.

Starlink training with our Community Resilience Teams
Some of the Byron Shire community resilience hubs have been provided with portable Starlink dishes, which give them access to essential and life-saving communication should mobile and NBN networks fail.
The Starlink systems are on loan to the hubs to be used in the event of an emergency.
This project was funded by the NSW and Australian Governments.
Community Emergency Communications Guide
